Milestone tragedy: Public rushes to donate blood at burn institute

Following the fatal plane crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara, crowds of people have gathered at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) to donate blood for the injured.
Many donors, including some who travelled from outside Dhaka, were seen waiting outside the hospital this morning (22 July), particularly those with rare blood types.
Volunteers from the Red Crescent Society have been assisting in organising the list of donors, although no blood was being collected on the spot at the time.
Speaking to reporters at the hospital this morning, Prof Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, special assistant to the chief adviser for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, urged the public not to overwhelm donation centres.
"There is no need for a rush. Blood will be collected today. We have sufficient preparations in place," he said, noting that only a few donors with negative blood groups would be needed and that the number of required donors would not exceed 100.
As of today, the death toll has risen to 27, including 25 children, in the Bangladesh Air Force jet crash and ensuing fire at the school yesterday afternoon. Dozens more remain hospitalised with critical burns.
