The tragedy in Milestone School and College claimed 36 lives in total
After undergoing 97 days of treatment for severe burn injuries sustained in the Milestone School and College plane crash, student Navid Newaz has been discharged from hospital today (27 October).
He was released from the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) in Dhaka this afternoon.
Institute Director Dr Mohammad Nasir Uddin told a press briefing that Navid has now fully recovered. "After a long period of treatment, Navid is returning home today. We are delighted at his complete recovery," he said.
"The 12-year-old Navid, a seventh-grade student of Milestone School and College, underwent 38 surgeries during his treatment," added Dr Nasir.
Navid suffered severe burn injuries in the training aircraft crash at Diabari in the capital on 21 July this year.
Following the accident, he was initially taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and later transferred to the Burn Institute for advanced treatment.
Speaking to BBC Bangla, Navid's father Mizanur Rahman said that while the family has started talking to his son about returning to school, Navid refuses to go back to Milestone School, the site of the tragic plane crash.
"We have done a lot of counselling, but the memory of that horrific accident still haunts him," Mizanur Rahman said. "He has made it clear that he won't study at Milestone School anymore."
He asked for prayers from everyone for his son's full recovery, adding that the family plans to enroll Navid in Cantonment Public School nearby.
