At least 54 "suspicious individuals" have been barred from going to India by Benapole Immigration officials in the past two days.

"They were not permitted to leave as their trip to India appeared suspicious," Benapole Immigration Check Post Officer-in-Charge Imtiaz Md Ahsanul Quader told The Business Standard.

Meanwhile, one of the individuals who was barred, said many of them are followers of Iskcon.

"I came to leave for India to attend a religious ceremony. I was sent back by immigration," said Saurabh Tapander Cheli, who claims to be a member of Iskcon.

Another individual, who wished not to be named, said they wanted to go to India to attend a religious ritual.

"But we have been turned away from immigration without any reason."

TBS could not independently verify their claims.
