Metro rail staff announce work stoppage from tomorrow; authorities assure service continuity
In a press statement, the employees said they would also hold a peaceful sit-in programme every day in front of the DMTCL head office as part of their protest
Regular officers and employees of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) have announced a full work stoppage and suspension of all passenger services starting 7am tomorrow (12 December), citing the authority's failure to finalise and publish an autonomous employment regulation by the 9 December deadline.
In a press statement, the employees said they would also hold a peaceful sit-in programme every day in front of the DMTCL head office as part of their protest.
However, DMTCL authorities have reassured commuters that metro rail operations will continue as usual despite the announcement.
Md Ahsan Ullah Sharifi, deputy project director (public relations) of MRT Line-6, said, "Metro rail will run according to the scheduled timetable."
