The interim government has finalised new uniforms for the Bangladesh Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), as well as Ansar and VDP to help rebuild their image following the fall of the Awami League government.

The approval came during a meeting of the advisory council committee on law and order at the Secretariat today, according to media reports.

Representatives from the police, Ansar, and RAB participated in the meeting, showcasing 18 different uniform prototypes.

Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, who chaired the meeting, said, "These uniforms will be given to the members of the forces in phases.

"Everything, including the uniforms and mentality, must change. The utmost importance is being given to stopping corruption. All the uniforms and logos of the police will be changed. Many people have been heartbroken, and the police no longer want to work wearing their [previous] uniform."

In response to another question, he said the army would remain deployed in the field for as long as necessary.

The initiative for this reform gained momentum following discussions on police reforms, which began after the Awami League government was toppled in a mass uprising on 5 August last year.

The law enforcement agencies lost morale and refrained from duties for around two weeks due to their excessive use of force during the mass uprising, which resulted in around 1,000 deaths and thousands of injuries.
