Media to be equipped with new tech: Information minister
“We want to bring the overall media management under a modern framework. We have yet to connect fully with the modern technology-driven global system and ecosystem of new media,” he said.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has assured that the country's media system will be modernised to align with evolving global technological standards.
"We want to bring the overall media management under a modern framework. We have yet to connect fully with the modern technology-driven global system and ecosystem of new media," he said this morning (27 February) while responding to questions from journalists after a cheque distribution programme organised by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for road accident victims at the Barishal Circuit House.
He said ensuring the free flow of information to the public remains a priority. "Our goal is to guarantee maximum freedom by defining the scope of accountability based on the opinions of journalists and all stakeholders," he said.
The minister noted that when the Ministry of Information was established, technology-based media did not exist. Although such media have expanded significantly in recent years, necessary adjustments have yet to be fully achieved.
"I have taken responsibility to hold discussions with all government policymakers and gradually ensure uninterrupted access to information for the public," he added.
Responding to a question regarding reported vandalism in a courtroom in Barishal and the arrest of the president of the Bar Association, Swapon said, "After speaking with the deputy commissioner and learning the details, I will discuss the matter with the Ministry of Law."
Earlier, the minister distributed cheques worth Tk2.17 crore among 61 road accident victims at the BRTA programme. Senior officials of the local administration were present at the event.
