Deep depression crosses Bay, maritime ports advised to hoist signal 3
The deep depression has completed crossing the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast between Sagar Island and Khepupara.
It now lies over Satkhira and adjoining areas as a land deep depression, said the latest bulletin of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
It may move north or northeastward and weaken gradually.
Under its influence, gusty or squally weather may affect the maritime ports, North Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no 3.
Due to the influence of the new moon phase and the deep depression, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts of Chattográm, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Hatiya, Sandwip, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barisal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars are likely to be inundated by wind-driven surge of 1-3 feet height above normal astronomical tide.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till further notice.
