The cadets graduating from the Marine Fisheries Academy are set to become fearless deep-sea divers, equipped with skills acquired through rigorous training, said Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Passing Out Parade-2024 for the 43rd batch of cadets at the Marine Fisheries Academy in Chattogram on Tuesday morning (3 December), Farida Akhtar emphasised the importance of hard work, discipline, honesty, efficiency, and patriotism as the foundation of career success. 

She expressed hope that these qualities would enable the cadets to fulfil their duties and enhance the country's reputation.

The advisor highlighted the vital role of the Bay of Bengal as a source of natural resources, particularly in supplying fish to meet Bangladesh's nutritional needs. 

She urged the cadets to take a leadership role in the sustainable collection, conservation, and marketing of fish resources while preserving the Bay's biodiversity and combating environmental pollution.

Farida Akhtar also noted that the cadets would join various domestic and international commercial ships, enriching the national economy and contributing to the development of Bangladesh's blue economy.

This year, 106 cadets, including 12 women, graduated as part of the 43rd batch of the academy. 

During the ceremony, medals were awarded to recognise their achievements.

During the ceremony, medals were awarded to recognise their achievements, best all-rounder gold medal: Cadet Mohammad Ahsan Ul Anwar (Marine Fisheries Department), best in professional training silver medals Cadet Md. Raihan Hossain Majumder (Nautical Science Department)., Cadet Md. Jobair Abdullah (Marine Engineering Department), Cadet Mohammad Ahsan Ul Anwar (Marine Fisheries Department).

The event was presided over by Captain Mohammad Hasan, principal of the Marine Fisheries Academy. Distinguished guests included Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock MA Akmal Hossain Azad, Additional Secretaries Amena Begum and Syeda Nawara Jahan, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr Md Ziauddin, BFDC Chairman Suraiya Akhtar Jahan, and Director General of the Fisheries Department Md. Zillur Rahman. 

Registrar of Maritime University Commodore Md Monir Uddin Mallick, Commandant of the Marine Academy Captain Md Ibne Kaiser Taimur, Principal of the National Maritime Institute Captain Ataur Rahman, representatives of shipping agencies, guardians of the cadets, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
