Man killed in elephant attack while collecting firewood in Chattogram’s Banshkhali
Local residents recovered his body from the hilly forest area around 10am

A man was killed in an elephant attack while collecting firewood in the East Puichhari Hills area of Banshkhali upazila in Chattogram today (28 February).
Local residents recovered his body from the hilly forest area around 10am.
The deceased was identified as Abu Siddiq, 45, a resident of the Bashira-Bari Ummul Quran Madrasah area in East Puichhari union of Banshkhali.
Confirming the incident, Jaldi Wildlife Sanctuary Range Officer Anisuzzaman Sheikh said Abu Siddiq went to collect firewood in the East Puichhari Hills area this morning when he was attacked by a wild elephant and died on the spot.
"Upon receiving the news, locals formed a group and recovered his body from the site," he added.
Ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region is increasing the risks of such encounters as deforestation and habitat loss continue to drive elephants closer to human settlements.
