A man was killed in a wild elephant attack this morning (14 December) in the Chikonchhari area near the Panjegana-Sonaichhari road under Ramu Upazila's Rajarkul Union, Cox's Bazar.

The victim identified as 47-year-old Abdul Haque, a resident of the Dhalarmukh area in Rajarkul Union, was the son of Mohammad Hossain, confirmed Ramu police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Iman Kanti Chowdhury.

Citing the locals OC Iman Kanti Chowdhury said, "Abdul Haque had left home early in the morning for business purposes. While heading to Naikhongchari Sonaichhari to collect paddy, he encountered a herd of wild elephants. The elephants attacked him, leaving him trampled to death at the scene."

Rajarkul Union Parishad Chairman Mufizur Rahman said he visited the site after being informed about the incident.

"Wild elephant activity in the area has increased over the past few days, causing panic among locals. The elephants descending into residential areas have been causing damage to houses and property," he added.

OC Chowdhury further said that police recovered the body and prepared an inquest report before handing it over to the family following necessary legal procedures.
