Man dies of smoke inhalation in Mirsharai fire

A man died of smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram today (8 June).
The incident occurred in Ward-3 of Bariyarhat municipality.
The victim, Joynal Abedin, 35, hailed from Dighinala village in the Khagrachhari district.
According to Bariyarhat Fire Service Senior Station Officer Md Joynal Abedin, the control room received reports of a fire at several shops and adjacent tin-shed houses around 3:05am.
Firefighters from the Bariyarhat station rushed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control after about two and a half hours, around 5:30am.
"The fire is believed to have started due to an electrical short circuit," the official said. "One shop and several rooms in a tin-shed colony were partially burned. After extinguishing the fire, we rescued one person from a room and handed him over to the police."
Regarding the deceased, the fire service officer said Joynal Abedin used to drive a rickshaw and work as a day labourer in the Bariyarhat area.
"He was living alone in a rented room in the colony. It appears he was asleep when the fire broke out and could not escape in time. He died of suffocation from the smoke."
