Making every women and girl count: Bangladesh launches time use survey 2021
A total of 200 enumerators, supervisors and district level officials of BBS attended the inauguration
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) in collaboration with UN Women Bangladesh inaugurated a training programme on "Time Use Survey (TUS) 2021" under Making Every woman and Girl Count Bangladesh (MEWGC) Programme on Saturday at the BBS Auditorium, Parishankhyan Bhaban.
A joint initiative by UN Women and Bangladesh and Bureau of Statistics, the Time Use Survey aims to measure Women's unpaid care work burden.
It will support generate data on the proportion of time spent on domestic and care work, segregated by sex, age and location which is critical to measure women's unrecognised work.
A total of 200 enumerators, supervisors and district level officials of BBS attended the inauguration. The training will continue for 6 days and field-level data collection for the Survey will start on 24th January.

Present as the Chief Guest, Mohammad Yamin Chowdhury, Secretary, Statistics and Information Division (SID), Ministry of Planning emphasized on measuring women's unaccounted work and also providing a monitory value of all activities to compare the unrecognised work with the National GDP.
In order to do that the Secretary also suggested to develop a Satellite account from the data of Time Use Survey.
Muhammad Meshbaul Alam, Additional Secretary (Admin), Statistics and Information Divisions (SID), Ministry of Planning was present as Special Guest and Dilruba Haider, Officer in Change, UN Women Bangladesh Country Office attended as the Guest of Honour. The session was chaired by the Director-General, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
Bangladesh is one of the pathfinder countries to conduct the Time Use Survey in this region under UN Women's global project "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" that contributes to SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
