Majority favour good relations with both India and Pakistan, survey finds

About 72.2% Bangladeshis want the country to maintain good relations with India, while 69% want good relations with Pakistan, according to the latest round of the People's Election Pulse Survey.
The results of part two of the second round of the survey, conducted by Innovision Consulting, assisted by Voice for Reform and the Bangladesh Research Analysis and Information Network (BRAIN), were presented today (24 September) at the National Archives auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The survey also shows that 13.9% people want to maintain a distant relation with India and 11.2% people want the same with Pakistan.
However, the findings indicate a difference in opinion among university students.
Support for strong relations with India was lower in this group compared to the general population.
Among the students surveyed, 15.1% preferred distance from India, while 8% expressed the same view regarding Pakistan.
While 64.4% students want the nation to maintain a good relationship with India, and 66.4% students want the same with Pakistan.
The report notes that while public opinion continues to emphasise foreign relations, domestic issues remain significant.
Innovision Consulting Managing Director Md Rubaiyath Sarwar presented the findings.
A total of 10,413 eligible voters participated in the survey from 2 to 15 September, with 69.5% from rural areas and 30.5% from urban areas. Samples were collected from eight divisions, 64 districts, and 521 primary sampling units.
