Locals and members of various organisations in Cumilla formed a human chain on the side of the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Eliotganj in Daudkandi upazila today (2 February) to protest recent attacks and robberies on passenger microbuses and cars.

The protesters stated that small long-distance vehicles on the highway have been increasingly targeted for robbery and carjacking over a prolonged period.

During the protest, highway police officials held discussions with the protesters.

Khairul Alam, superintendent of Highway Region Comilla Police, stated, "Highway police are working tirelessly around the clock. We are on high alert. While there have been isolated incidents of carjacking on the highway, no robbery cases have been reported."

Following assurances that their grievances would be addressed, the protesters dispersed and lifted the blockade.
