Lightning kills farmer in Kushtia

A farmer was tragically killed by a lightning strike at Sultan village under Kaya union of Kushtia's Kumarkhali upazila today (30 April).
The deceased was Zahurul Islam, 45, said Solaiman Sheikh, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station.
Zahurul's niece, Anwar Kabir, said the incident occurred when Zahurul was attempting to cover his harvested paddy with polythene to shield it from an impending rainstorm at noon.
"A sudden bolt of lightning struck him, killing Zahurul on the spot," he added.
Anwar said other farmers rushed Zahurul to the hospital, where the doctors on duty declared him dead on arrival.
