Chattogram Port security personnel detained a man this morning (12 September) while he was allegedly attempting to steal goods from a container at Shed No 13 of the General Cargo Berth (GCB) area.
The detainee, identified as Saiful Islam Rubel, 34, is the owner of the truck seized during the incident. According to port officials, Saiful had entered the premises to transport imported sheet coils for a private industrial factory.
Md Omar Faruk, secretary of the port, said the container had been kept at Shed 13 awaiting the release of imported goods. Saiful, along with his accomplices, allegedly broke the container's seal and started loading items onto the truck.
"The theft was detected on CCTV cameras of the port security department. A security team rushed to the spot and detained Saiful," Faruk said.
Security personnel recovered seven rolls of fabric, four yaba tablets, and the truck used in the attempted theft, he added.
Omar said Saiful has been handed over to Bandar Police Station, where a case is being filed against him.
