DMP orders removal of unauthorised inter-district bus counters from Dhaka city
According to the notice, inter-district buses will only be allowed to operate from three terminals: Gabtoli Bus Terminal, Mohakhali Bus Terminal, and Sayedabad Bus Terminal.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police has asked all inter-district bus operators to remove unauthorised counters from different parts within Dhaka city.
In a notice signed by acting DMP commissioner Md Sarwar yesterday (5 April), the police said these counters must be removed within seven working days.
According to the notice, inter-district buses will only be allowed to operate from three terminals: Gabtoli Bus Terminal, Mohakhali Bus Terminal, and Sayedabad Bus Terminal.
The DMP said unauthorised counters and roadside activities like passenger pick-up and parking are causing traffic congestion, even at nighttime within the city.
It warned that legal action will be taken under the Road Transport Act 2018 if the order is not followed.
The move aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic management in the capital after the newly elected government took some measures to curb Dhaka's hectic traffic.
