Supporters of BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) allegedly attacked Naria Police Station of Shariatpur district last night (8 May) after reported failure to release their undocumented motorbikes seized by police.

A police constable named Billal Hossain was injured in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at a Dhaka hospital, police said.

According to sources and the police, three motorcycles were seized from Boroipara area in Ghorishar Union for not having proper documents on Wednesday night.

Last night, a group of JCD activists led by Shahin Sheikh, a college Chhatra Dal leader and nephew of Naria Municipal Jubo Dal President Nuruzzaman Sheikh, arrived at the police station to retrieve the bikes.

But they failed to do so as the bikes lacked proper documents.

Enraged by it, the JCD supporters reportedly began throwing bricks and stones at the police station, damaging property and leaving constable Billal injured.

He was first taken to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Shariatpur's Superintendent of Police Nazrul Islam said properties, including glass windows of the police station, were damaged during the attack.

He said they were scrutinising CCTV footage to identify those involved in the attack and some have already been detained.

No one will be spared if found guilty, he warned.
