Labour Secy warns factory owners of strict action against illegal layoffs

Labour Secretary AHM Shafiquzzaman on Tuesday said strict action will be taken against factory owners who lay off workers illegally without notifying the local administration or relevant authorities.
"The intelligence agencies have informed the government about plans to create instability by laying off workers after Eid," he said at a press conference held after the 20th meeting of the Tripartite Consultation Committee on the RMG sector (RMG-TCC) at the secretariat.
The secretary said if such efforts are made the government would enforce the law strictly.

"Those who plot against the garment sector are enemies of the country," he said.
