Kishoreganj administration suspends concert over organisers' licence, registration issues
The decision comes a day after the Kishoreganj Sadar unit of Imam-Ulama Parishad submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding the cancellation of the concert.
The Kishoreganj district administration today (19 August) suspended a concert scheduled to be held at the town's Old Stadium, citing the organisers' failure to obtain the required registration and licence.
The concert, organised by local restaurant Alishan, was set to take place in the afternoon and was expected to feature performances by several bands, including Ashes and Nobleman, reports Prothom Alo.
Kishoreganj Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Ishtiaq Imon said the organisers had neither applied under the Hotel Registration Act nor obtained a hotel licence.
"We called the organisers in. The problem is that they did not submit any application under the Hotel Registration Act and did not obtain a hotel licence. There is no scope for approving any activity carried out by an illegal or unregistered institution. We
informed them that, since they do not have registration, we could not grant the permissions they had sought," he told Prothom Alo.
The decision came a day after the Kishoreganj Sadar unit of Imam-Ulama Parishad submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding the cancellation of the concert.
The memorandum, signed by the organisation's president, Maulana Ahmadullah, was also sent to the superintendent of police, the Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and the officer-in-charge of the local police station.
Kishoreganj Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan told Prothom Alo that the district administration would make the decision regarding the concert.
Band Ashes also announced the suspension of the event on its Facebook page.
In a post published this morning, the band wrote, "Dear Kishoreganj, today's concert at the Old Stadium has been postponed due to some unforeseen reasons on the part of the administration. We hope to see you again."
Imam-Ulama Parishad had also announced a protest rally and demonstration in Kishoreganj town this afternoon to demand the cancellation of the concert.
However, the organisation later withdrew its programme after the concert was suspended, Maulana Ahmadullah told Prothom Alo.
