Khaleda going thru critical period: Dr Zahid
If, by Allah’s mercy, she can get through this critical period, something positive can be expected, he says
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, currently receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka, remains in a highly critical condition, her personal physician Dr AZM Zahid said last night (27 December).
"Khaleda is going through a critical period. If, by Allah's mercy, she can get through this critical period, we will get to hear something positive," Dr Zahid said while briefing reporters on the former prime minister's ongoing treatment.
"It cannot be said that her condition is improving naturally… Her condition is extremely complex," he said at the briefing, held without prior announcement at around 12:30am in front of Evercare Hospital.
Dr Zahid noted that since Khaleda was admitted to the hospital on 23 November, her physical condition subsequently deteriorated significantly.
"Due to the continuous decline in her health, she was first moved from a cabin to the CCU and later to the ICU," he said.
Dr Zahid, also a member of the BNP Standing Committee, added that both local and foreign physicians are involved in her care, with her daughter-in-law, Dr Zubaida Rahman, actively participating in the treatment process.
Following his return to Bangladesh on 25 December after more than 17 years in exile, BNP Acting Chairperson Tarique Rahman visited his mother at the hospital.
On Saturday, after attending various programmes during the day, he again went to see her, staying for over two hours before leaving at 11:58pm.
Khaleda Zia is facing multiple health complications, including issues related to diabetes, kidneys, heart, and lungs, which are currently fluctuating. Various medical tests are being conducted routinely as part of her ongoing treatment.
Although the BNP has suggested that she be taken abroad for advanced treatment, this has not been possible. Her current physical condition does not allow for air travel, so her treatment continues in the country.
