A court today (22 January) cleared former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from the charges in a case filed on charge of sabotage in Chouddagram, Cumilla in 2015.

Judge of Additional Session Judge Court-2 of Cumilla  Afroza Jesmin passed the order as the court did not find any probe against Khaleda Zia, who is now undergoing treatment in London.

The court also observed that the case was filed on political ground and harassment.

Public Prosecutor of Cumilla court Advocate Kaimul Haque Rinku confirmed the matter today.

The case was lodged against 32 people including Khaleda Zia in the Special Powers Act, 1974 with Chouddagram Police Station in Cumilla in connection with damaging and setting fire on a covered van during the hartal on January 25 in 2015.

Khaleda Zia was the 32nd accused in the case.

Police submitted a charge sheet against 42 persons in the case before the court.

Thirty-six of them were acquitted from the charges while the decision on six others will be taken later as they earlier received a suspension order in favour of them in the case.
