'July Warrior' in Faridpur applies for withdrawal of name from gazette

A July uprising frontliner in Faridpur has voluntarily requested the removal of his name from the government gazette and renounce all related benefits, expressing frustration over persistent corruption.
Abrar Nadim Itu, 27, with gazette number 2489, submitted his application to the Deputy Commissioner's office today (30 October). The petition was received by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Sohrab Hossain on behalf of the DC, who also chairs the July Verification Committee.
In his letter to the DC, Itu recalled being injured during the July 1971 movement. "I am deeply disappointed that the current interim government and local authorities have failed, for over a year, to uphold the July ideals of a corruption- and loot-free nation. Political parties too display inconsistencies in their actions," he wrote.
He cited ongoing irregularities in administrative and service sectors in Faridpur, noting that syndicates remain intact and malpractice continues unabated. "For these reasons, I formally withdraw my name from the government gazette and decline any monthly allowance, which I have not even received," Itu added.
Itu is listed in the gazette published on 5 March 2025 under the "GA" category (injured).
Speaking to reporters, Itu said, "We fought to see a fair and just nation, but our aspirations are unfulfilled. The interim government and local bodies have taken no effective steps to realise the July spirit. Corruption continues, and personal interests dominate."
He also described his family's ongoing struggles. His father, Azad Abul Kalam, retired as headmaster of Hajiganj High School in Charbhadrason in October 2022, but has faced difficulty accessing his pension.
Itu said, "The previous government withheld his pension for two years, and despite repeated visits to various offices over the past 13 months under the interim government, we have been unable to claim it. The same corruption is visible in other departments, including education and healthcare."
Confirming receipt of the application, ADC Sohrab Hossain said, "We have received the request for voluntary withdrawal from the July government gazette and all associated benefits. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with procedures."
