July Uprising victim allegedly assaulted in Mirpur ahead of ICT appearance
A 17-year-old injured during the July Uprising was allegedly assaulted by unidentified individuals in Mirpur last night (26 February).
Muhammad Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Mirpur Police Station, told The Business Standard (TBS) that Adham Bin Amin, known as a "July warrior," was allegedly beaten around 10:30pm.
The victim's mother, Khadija Amin, 55, filed a complaint with Mirpur Police Station. Police said they are investigating the matter with utmost importance.
In the complaint, Khadija stated that at approximately 10:22pm, an anonymous caller contacted her son and asked him to come out of their Mirpur residence.
"He was then threatened and beaten, and a red swollen mark is still visible around his neck," she said in the complaint.
Adhham had previously sustained critical injuries during the July Uprising and has been undergoing treatment. According to his mother, he is scheduled to appear before the International Crimes Tribunal on 3 March in a case filed against Salman F Rahman and former law minister Anisul Haque.
"The incident took place just before that. We want a fair probe into the latest event, and I'm asking for my son's security," she said.
Police said further details would be shared once the investigation progresses.
