July Martyrs' Day: State mourning to be observed tomorrow

Bangladesh will observe a day of state mourning tomorrow (16 July) to commemorate July Martyrs' Day.
The Cabinet Division announced the decision in a gazette notification issued today (15 July).
According to the notification, all government, semi-government, autonomous, and educational institutions — as well as all government and private buildings across the country and Bangladeshi missions abroad — will fly the national flag at half-mast on the day.
As part of the observance, special prayers will be held in mosques across the country, along with similar arrangements in other places of worship, seeking forgiveness for the souls of those who were killed in the mass uprising.
Earlier, on 2 July, the Cabinet Division issued a separate notification officially declaring 16 July as July Martyrs' Day to be observed annually. The day has been categorised as a "Category B" observance in the government's commemorative calendar.
