Jaywalkers to be sued: DMP commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has said case will be filed if pedestrians do not use foot-over bridges and zebra crossing.
"Case will be filed in previous slip system for the time being for breaking traffic rules," DMP commissioner said while briefing media on the Road Transport Act, 2018 at the DMP media centre in the capital today.
Shafiqul Islam said, "Point of Sale (POS) machine will be introduced from the next week to smoothen the case process."
The DMP commissioner also assured that no case will be filed under the new law for one week.
He also said stern actions will be taken if any police sergeant takes illegal benefits by terrifying of the new law.
Traffic police will help people cross roads where traffic facilities like zebra crossing are not available, he further added.
