The Jatiyo Party's Rajshahi district office was vandalised in the early hours of today (30 August), hours after an attack on Gono Odhikar Parishad leader Nurul Haque Nur in Dhaka last night during clashes between his party men and JaPa activists.
Earlier, at around 11:30pm last night (29 August), leaders and activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Gono Odhikar Parishad held a march from Saheb Bazar Zero Point in Rajshahi, protesting the attack on Nur and others from his party.
The procession passed Rajshahi College, Saheb Bazar and Ganakpara before moving past the Jatiyo Party office, where an attack later took place.
Some leaders from the procession allegedly broke doors, chairs and tables, removed the office signboard, and set it on fire on the street.
Boalia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said, "The vandalism and arson occurred before our patrol cars arrived.
"Those involved are being identified, and legal action will follow if complaints are filed."
The protest march included Mobashwer Ali, the NCP's convener for Rajshahi city; Nahidul Islam Saju, district joint convener; Sarowarul Haque Robin, city joint convener; former Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Shakilur Rahman; Torikul Islam, the Gono Odhikar
Parishad's district general secretary; Shakir Hossain, organising secretary; Mahmud Hasan Jewel, city joint convener; and Arjit Ali Rana, joint member secretary.
RU students block highway as part of protest
Rajshahi University students blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway in front of the main gate at around 11:30am today in protest against the attack on Nurul Haque Nur.
They chanted slogans against the Jatiya Party and demanded a ban on its politics, calling it an ally of "Awami fascism."

Chhatra Odhikar Parishad President Mehedi Hasan Maruf said, "Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice immediately. We are giving a 24-hour ultimatum. If the attackers are not arrested and punished within this period, we will launch a tougher movement." and brought to justice.
He warned that a stronger movement will follow if the attackers are not arrested and punished.
