Jatiyo Party leader found dead at Paltan hotel
Initially, it appears he may have died of a stroke, police say
Police recovered the body of Shahidul Islam Babu, 68, a senior leader of the Jatiyo Party (JaPa), from a residential hotel in the capital's Paltan area this afternoon (18 December).
Shahidul, a resident of Kachua upazila in Bagerhat district and general secretary of the JaPa's Bagerhat district unit, was found dead in the bathroom of room 324 on the third floor of Paltan Residential Hotel in Bijoynagar.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Police Station Md Mostafa Kamal Khan told The Business Standard that Shahidul had been staying at the hotel for the past few days in connection with party work in Dhaka.
"His family members failed to reach him since last night. Later, party colleagues in Dhaka went to the hotel this afternoon. With the help of hotel authorities, they entered the room and found him lying dead on the bathroom floor," the OC said.
He added that Shahidul had been suffering from heart disease for a long time and had previously suffered two strokes.
"Initially, it appears he may have died of a stroke. However, the body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death," he said.
