Jamaat ameer and his party never think soundly: Fakhrul
He said he condemned the Jamaat chief’s comments and protested against the remarks.
BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (25 April) said that Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman and his party never think soundly.
Speaking after a joint meeting at the BNP's central office in Nayapaltan, Fakhrul rejected Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman's remarks that BNP came to power through "election engineering", saying the allegation was unacceptable.
He said, "He (Jamaat ameer) and his party never think soundly. All domestic and foreign observers have admitted in one voice that this election has been the most neutral, free, and fair in Bangladesh. BNP formed the government by winning 213 seats through their popularity."
He said he condemned the Jamaat chief's comments and protested against the remarks.
Without directly naming Jamaat in another part of his speech, Fakhrul said attempts were being made to create confusion over the BNP's activities and to divide democratic forces.
He said people should consider whether any group was trying to restore autocratic rule in a different form.
Regarding Jamaat, Mirza Fakhrul also said, "We must work in such a way that they can be completely eliminated politically in the future."
Fakhrul also announced that BNP affiliate Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal would hold a rally on 1 May, marking International Workers' Day.
The rally is scheduled to begin at 2:30pm in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan, where BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to attend.
