BNP reserved seat nominee Nipun Roy declares 502 bhori gold 'received as gifts' in affidavit
According to the submitted documents, her husband, Amitabh Roy, owns a further 100 bhori of gold jewellery.
Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a BNP candidate for a reserved women's seat in the 13th National Parliament, has declared a substantial amount of gold jewellery in her election affidavit.
According to the submitted documents, she personally owns 502 bhori of gold and other precious metal ornaments. Her husband, Amitabh Roy, owns a further 100 bhori of gold jewellery.
The affidavit does not mention the acquisition cost of the ornaments, stating instead that they were received as gifts.
Nipun Roy Chowdhury, 39, is a lawyer by profession and serves as general secretary of Dhaka District BNP. Her main sources of income are her legal practice and various investments.
She earns around Tk26 lakh annually from her profession, with an additional income of around Tk4.5 lakh from shares and bank deposits.
She has fixed deposits worth Tk1.13 crore in her name. The declared purchase value of two cars she owns is Tk1.11 crore.
According to the affidavit, her movable assets amount to around Tk10.5 crore, while her husband's movable assets exceed Tk3.5 crore.
Among immovable assets, the affidavit mentions a flat purchased for Tk85.2 lakh, though its location was not specified.
Nipun Roy also has outstanding loans totalling around Tk1.19 crore. Combined cash holdings of the couple amount to around Tk76 lakh, of which Tk13.29 lakh belongs to her.
Notably, in 2025, she received discharge, acquittal or final reports in 23 cases.
Nipun Roy is the daughter of BNP Vice-Chairman and former minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and the daughter-in-law of party Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.
Formalities for finalising members for the reserved women's seats in the 13th Parliament are still pending.
Of the 50 reserved seats, nomination papers of 36 candidates from the BNP-led alliance, 12 from the Jamaat-e-Islami-led alliance and one from an independent alliance have been declared valid after scrutiny held on Wednesday (22 April) and Thursday (23 April).
If no candidate withdraws by Wednesday (29 April), they will be elected unopposed.
