Italy offers Bangladesh technical support to enhance fire probe skills
In the meeting, Italy assured to provide technical assistance and training to enhance the investigation capacity of Bangladesh in fire accidents.
Italy has expressed its willingness to cooperate with Bangladesh in several areas, including enhancing skills in investigating fire incidents, preventing human trafficking, and combating financial crimes.
The offers came during a bilateral meeting between the home ministers of the two countries held in Rome, according to a Home Ministry press release.
The Bangladesh delegation was led by Home and Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, while Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi headed the host side. The meeting took place at the Italian Interior Ministry office.
During the discussion, Italy assured Bangladesh of providing technical assistance and training to strengthen its capacity in fire accident investigations.
Both sides also discussed a range of mutual concerns, including irregular migration, prevention of human trafficking, money laundering, and financial crimes, with a focus on boosting investigative and institutional cooperation.
The two countries agreed to hold a joint security dialogue, exchange intelligence information, and conduct joint law enforcement operations to manage migration and prevent trafficking.
They also emphasised forming a joint task force to combat human trafficking, ensure rehabilitation of victims, and expand opportunities for legal migration.
The meeting further proposed signing a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) and an extradition agreement to strengthen cooperation in tackling financial crimes. Both sides also discussed initiatives to enhance forensic investigation and asset recovery capabilities.
The home ministers of both countries described the meeting as an important milestone toward deepening future cooperation and partnership.
