Hannan Khan was admitted to the CMH after testing positive with coronavirus on Friday. His condition deteriorated on Sunday morning, and he had a stroke at noon, said ICT official Sanaul.

Hannan was an Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the time of his death. He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter, and a host of well-wishers to mourn his passing.

He served as the Chief Coordinator of the investigations into Bangabandhu's murder and jail killing cases.

In a message of condolence, the Premier said Abdul Hannan Khan had performed his duty with the utmost dedication and efficiency in his capacity as the Chief Coordinator of the investigation wing in the assassination of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the jail killing cases.

In 2010, Hannan was made the Coordinator of the ICT probe wing to investigate crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War. The former Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police was subsequently promoted, becoming the Chief Coordinator of the probe wing.

In her condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said Hannan had executed his duties at the investigation wing with honesty and bravery.

The Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed her deepest condolences to the bereaved members of Hannan's family.
