CDA’s Tk400cr to be saved as alignment of elevated expressway changes

The Chattogram Port Authority has said Tk400 crore of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) will be saved with some new decisions taken regarding the alignment of elevated expressway from Barik Building to Bandar Bhaban.
 
At an emergency meeting held at Chittagong Port, the authorities concerned took decisions to construct the expressway by placing pillars in the middle of the main road as per the design in the approved DPP from Barik Building to Saltgola of Elevated Expressway; construction work should be done by keeping two lanes on both sides of the road (four lanes in total) free in order to keep the traffic smooth during construction; and making soundproof high fencing to ensure safety on the side of the flyover in the KPI area.
 
For these decisions, it will not be necessary to acquire about four acres of land of Chattogram Port and about 2.5 acres of land of general people and no compensation will have to be paid to the people for their installations. This will save Tk400 crore of CDA, it added. 
 
The meeting was held at the Bandar Bhaban on Monday, with CPA chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan in the chair, said a press release issued by CPA. 
 
CDA Chairman Zahirul Alam Dobhas and Bangladesh Navy Commander (Chattogram Naval Area) Rear Admiral M Mozammel Haque attended the meeting.
 
The meeting also decided to adjust the distance of the span so that no pillar of the expressway would install on the gates of the port. 
 
It is emphasized that the movement of import-export cargo trucks / Lorries of the port should be uninterrupted and the operational activities of the port should not be disrupted in any way during the construction from Barik building to Saltagola of the flyover to be constructed to keep the country's import-export and its economy afloat.
 
The meeting also decided to coordinate Chittagong Port and the traffic department of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and to temporarily shift the truck-lorries plying at the existing gates of the port to the CPAR gates for smooth traffic management during construction.
 
During the construction of the elevated expressway, it was emphasized that the movement of cargo trucks and lorries of the port should be uninterrupted and the operational activities of the port should not be disrupted in any way.
 
In July 2017, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved the construction of an elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to Shah Amanat International Airport at a cost of around Tk3,500 crore. 
 
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction work on 24 February, 2019.
