According to a report by news agency IANS, citing intelligence officials, a probe has revealed the modus operandi adopted by the two accused in the killing of Hadi, detailing how they escaped from Bangladesh and managed to remain in India for several months after committing the crime.
According to a senior intelligence officer of the West Bengal Police, Faisal and Alamgir fled Dhaka immediately after the shooting in December last year.
The duo initially escaped on a motorcycle and later changed vehicles multiple times to evade detection.
Investigators said the suspects switched cars at least five times while travelling towards the Haluaghat border in Mymensingh district. Taking advantage of darkness, they managed to cross into Meghalaya, allegedly avoiding the surveillance of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF).
West Bengal intelligence sources said that after entering India, the two moved across several states in North East India using fake identities and temporary hideouts. They later travelled through the northern part of West Bengal, frequently changing trains and buses before eventually reaching Bongaon in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
On 12 December at around 2:20pm, assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Hadi, leaving him critically injured with gunshot wounds to the head and below the right ear.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital, Dhaka. As his condition worsened, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on 15 December for advanced treatment.
He died there on 18 December, about a week later, while undergoing treatment. Following the shooting, a case was filed with the Paltan Police Station on 14 December on charges of attempted murder, which was later converted into a murder case after Hadi's death.
