ICT sets 3 February for probe report in Kallyanpur ‘Jahajbari’ case
The case relates to “Operation Storm-26”, in which nine youths were shot dead in Kallyanpur in 2016
The International Crimes Tribunal has given the prosecution two weeks to complete the investigation and submit a report by 3 February in a crimes against humanity case over the 2016 Kallyanpur "Jahajbari" incident, in which nine people were shot dead.
Tribunal-1 issued the order today (22 January) after Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim briefed the tribunal on the investigation progress and sought two more weeks to complete it.
The report submission was scheduled for today. After the hearing, the single-member bench of tribunal-1, led by Justice Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury, set 3 February as the new date for filing the investigation report.
Earlier in the day, police produced three accused in the tribunal – former inspector general of police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque, former commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Miah, and former deputy commissioner (DC) of DMP's Mirpur division Md Jasim Uddin Mollah.
The case relates to a police Counter Terrorism unit operation at a building in Kallyanpur, Dhaka, known as "Jahajbari", on the night of 25 July 2016. The operation, named "Operation Storm-26", left nine youths shot dead.
Following the political changeover on 5 August 2024 and the reconstitution of the International Crimes Tribunal, the tribunal's investigation agency and the prosecution began investigating the incident.
