Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has said he has inherited numbers of challenges after assuming office.

The DSCC mayor made the remark while talking to the reporters after visiting the ongoing activities of the modern slaughterhouse at Kaptanbazar in Ward-37 on Wednesday.

When Taposh was asked to share his view on the illegal shops in the markets under the jurisdiction of Dhaka South, he said, "We have inherited a lot of challenges, and the DSCC area is plagued with many problems. We are taking actions against all of them in stages. Meanwhile, we have undertaken initiatives to evict illegal shops in a market," said Mayor Taposh, according to a press statement.

Besides, the city corporation will evict the illegal shops gradually in their markets, added the mayor.

When asked about the measures on filling River Buriganga and on river management, the mayor said, "The city corporation does not actually dump but removes waste. The statement that the city corporation is filling the river with waste is wrong."

Taposh continued, "However, according to the intention of the prime minister, we will restore the original Buriganga channel. Therefore, I have already appointed Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) as a consulting firm. They have submitted a preliminary report, and we are working on it."

He also said they will completely restore the original Buriganga and create an aesthetic environment free from waste, and Dhaka residents will be able to enjoy a beautiful environment.

Regarding the slaughterhouse in Kaptanbazar, the DSSC mayor said the work on the modern slaughterhouse is expected to be completed by December this year.
