Home adviser seeks greater US cooperation in Bangladesh’s security sector
The adviser described the US as a long-standing ally of Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of counter-terrorism and national security

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has called for increased cooperation from the United States in strengthening Bangladesh's security sector.
He made the call during a courtesy meeting with US Chargé d'Affaires Megan Bouldin at the Secretariat today (10 July).
During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of bilateral issues, including law and order, counter-terrorism, prosecution of criminal cases, and measures to prevent online sexual harassment of young women.
Welcoming the US envoy, the adviser described the United States as a long-standing ally of Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of counter-terrorism and national security.
He expressed appreciation for US support in providing training and equipment, which has helped modernise the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He also requested continued collaboration in this area.
In response, Chargé d'Affaires Bouldin reaffirmed the US commitment to cooperating on Bangladesh's security issues.
She noted that every country, including Bangladesh, faces some level of risk from terrorism and militant threats.
However, she also pointed out that in the past, some incidents of political suppression under the previous Awami League government had been labeled as militancy, potentially diverting focus from genuine security concerns. Despite this, she stressed the importance of vigilance.
