Hero Alom hospitalised after being beaten by unidentified assailants in Rampura
He is currently undergoing treatment at Mugda Hospital in the capital
Popular content creator Ashraful Hossain, better known as Hero Alom, has been attacked. Around 9 pm last night (29 September), a group of miscreants beat him up in Rampura, Dhaka, and left him there. He is currently undergoing treatment at Mugda Hospital in the capital.
Confirming the matter, Badda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Saiful Islam said, "We have received information that some unidentified individuals assaulted Hero Alom at the end of Aftabnagar."
"We have learned that he has been admitted to Mugda Hospital. We have dispatched two teams to the scene and to the hospital," the OC added.
Hero Alam rose to fame through his quirky and often criticised songs.
Over the years, he has repeatedly been caught in controversies, including criticism for his renditions of Rabindra and Nazrul songs, which some cultural activists viewed as distortions.
Despite the controversies around his artistic work, he transformed himself into a household name and eventually entered politics.
Over the years, he contested in national and by-elections, including Bogura-4, Bogura-6, and Dhaka-17, mostly as an independent candidate. He later joined the Muktijuddha Prajanma League as its cultural affairs secretary.
There have been a number of incidents of violence against the social media personality.
In July 2023, while contesting the Dhaka-17 parliamentary by-election, he was brutally attacked near a polling centre in Banani. The assault was reportedly carried out by people wearing Awami League "boat" badges. Alam alleged that the police and Border Guard Bangladesh failed to protect him, prompting him to demand a formal investigation into their role. The attack drew wide condemnation, and several individuals were later arrested in connection with the incident.
On 24 December 2025, he was allegedly attacked by some ruling party activists while he was campaigning for the upcoming polls.
Alom said he went to Kahaloo Bazar in the evening with his leaders and activists to conduct his election campaign.
But before the campaign started, some supporters of 'boat', the AL electoral symbol, led by Ramjan came and obstructed the campaigning, he said.
In September 2024, he was physically harassed at a court premises in Bogura, where he was manhandled and forced to hold his ears. He later claimed that BNP activists were responsible for the attack.
Beyond politics, his personal life has also attracted media attention. In June 2025, Hero Alam was hospitalised after reportedly taking an excessive number of sleeping pills, a move linked to frustration and stress surrounding his family life and disputes with his wife, Riya Moni. He was first treated at Dhunat Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, before being shifted to Dhaka for advanced care.
