Hefazat Mayhem: Sarail OC transferred

Nazmul Ahmed, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sarail Police Station in Brahmanbaria, has also been transferred over recent mayhem carried out by Hefazat.

However, no replacement of the OC has been made yet.

Earlier, after one month of the mayhem carried out by the activists and supporters of Hefazat-e-Islam, on 26 April, Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station OC Md Abdur Rahim was ordered to be attached to Rangpur Range by the police headquarters.

The next day on 27 April, Khatihata Highway Police OC Gazi Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain was transferred to Gazipur while Alauddin Chowdhury, Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police, Special Branch of District Police, was transferred to Sylhet Range Reserve Force (RRF).

Hefazat-e-Islam activists and supporters attacked the Aruail police camp of Sarail police station on 27 March during their protest against the visit of Indian Prime Minister NarendraModi to Bangladesh. Later, during the strike of Hefazat-e-Islam on 28 March, the Khantihata Highway police station building at SarailBishwaroad was attacked, vandalised and set on fire.

A total of 55 cases have been filed in this connection, cops said adding that 49 cases were filed with Sadar Model Police Station, four in Ashuganj Police Station and two in Sarail Police Station.

The cases were filed accusing 414 people and another 35,000 unnamed ones.

At least 11 people were killed in three days of clashes with law enforcement agencies.
