Hearing of appeal against acquittal of Tarique, Babar in 21 August grenade attack case set for Thursday
On 1 June this year, the Appellate Division granted the state permission to appeal against the High Court verdict that acquitted all the accused, including Tarique Rahman and Lutfozzaman Babar.

The Appellate Division has set Thursday (17 July) as the hearing date for the state's appeal against the acquittal of all accused, including Tarique Rahman and former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar, in the 21 August grenade attack case.
The order was passed today (15 July) by a five-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.
Senior lawyers representing the BNP in court included Barrister Jamir Uddin Sorkar, Zainul Abedin, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, and Barrister Kaiser Kamal. Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman appeared on behalf of the state.
On 1 June this year, the Appellate Division granted the state permission to appeal against the High Court verdict that acquitted all the accused, including Tarique Rahman and Lutfozzaman Babar.
This permission for a "leave to appeal" was also granted by the bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed.
On 12 January this year, the High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain acquitted Tarique Rahman — who had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment — and Lutfozzaman Babar, who had received the death penalty from the trial court.
The High Court overturned the trial court's verdict in this highly controversial case.
The 21 August grenade attack, which targeted an Awami League rally in Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka in 2004,killed at least 24 people and injured many others.
