The health minister stated that the government would not tolerate any "syndicates" or vested interests within the sector and warned that everyone must be answerable to the public.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Shakhawat Hossain announced spot-monitoring to oversee the performance of physicians and ensure that the people receive quality medical care.
Addressing an introductory meeting with ministry officials at the Secretariat today (19 February), the minister emphasised that accountability would be the cornerstone of the new administration.
He stated that the government would not tolerate any "syndicates" or vested interests within the sector and warned that everyone, from top-level officials to grassroots healthcare providers, must be answerable to the public.
"We want to ensure maximum service in our hospitals. Following the directives of the honourable prime minister, we will work to ensure that the people directly benefit from our initiatives," he said.
Shakhawat added that surprise inspections would be conducted to verify whether duty doctors are present and are providing services as required.
Minister Shakhawat also reiterated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's instruction to provide equal medical treatment to all citizens.
The meeting, presided over by Health Secretary Md Saidur Rahman, also featured State Minister for Health MA Muhit as a special guest.
Highlighting critical gaps in the system, Muhit pointed out that a significant number of vacancies across various departments and institutions are hindering the delivery of essential services.
He talked of taking immediate steps to fill these vacant posts and stressed the importance of improving the standard of medical education in the country.
