Mobile surgical units to bring cardiac care to doorsteps: Muhit
He said that the initiative would accelerate the government’s broader vision outlined in its election manifesto to transform the country’s healthcare system.
Advanced cardiac care services will be delivered to people's doorsteps through mobile medical and surgical units, State Minister for Health Dr MA Muhit said today (22 April).
"Non-communicable diseases, especially heart disease, account for a very high death rate. This excellent mobile vehicle will create a great opportunity to extend NICVD's services not only in Dhaka but also to remote rural areas outside the capital," he said.
The state minister made the remarks at a handover ceremony of a modern "Mobile Medical and Surgical Unit" (mobile van), provided under China-Bangladesh health sector cooperation, held at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) this morning.
He added that the initiative would accelerate the government's broader vision outlined in its election manifesto to transform the country's healthcare system.
"The government will reform and restructure the health system in such a way that public hospital services can truly meet the needs of the general people," he said.
Muhit further noted that reducing deaths and disabilities caused by non-communicable diseases remains a key priority for the government.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, NICVD Director Prof Dr Abdul Wadud Chowdhury, and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Dr Prabhat Chandra Biswas, among others, also spoke at the event.
