Measles vaccination begins in 30 high-risk areas
Vaccination activities will run daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
A simultaneous emergency Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign has been launched in 30 high-risk areas across the country to combat an outbreak of the disease.
The programme began this morning (5 April) and will continue until 21 May.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain inaugurated the campaign at an opening ceremony held in Nawabganj, Dhaka.
He stated that children in high-risk areas are being brought under the vaccination coverage rapidly to control the transmission of measles.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), vaccination activities will run daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
In the first phase, all children aged 5 months to 59 months will receive the vaccine.
Children who missed their regular doses previously are included. Furthermore, even those who have already been vaccinated will be reinoculated due to the high-risk nature of these areas.
Parents must register their children at the vaccination centres before receiving the dose.
Children can receive their regular routine vaccines one month after taking this emergency dose.
To reduce complications, children showing symptoms of measles are being provided with Vitamin 'A' capsules alongside the vaccine.
Data from the Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex reveals that 14 children recently sought treatment there with measles symptoms.
Among them, measles has been officially confirmed in three cases.
