Measles outbreak: 7 more die in 24 hours, death toll reaches 488
Four children were confirmed to have measles, while the remaining three died with suspected measles symptoms
Another seven children have died in the country due to measles and measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours between 8am yesterday (20 May) and today (21 May), according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among them, four children were confirmed to have measles, while the remaining three died with suspected measles symptoms.
During the same period, 1423 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide. Of these, 208 cases were lab-confirmed as measles.
So far this year, at least 83 children have died from confirmed measles in Bangladesh. In addition, 405 children have died with symptoms consistent with measles.
DGHS data shows that between 15 March and 21 May, a total of 8,275 measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing.
According to the latest health bulletin, 59,279 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide. Of these 42,336 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment.
