Measles outbreak: 6 more die in 24 hours, death toll reaches 481
Three children were confirmed to have measles, while the remaining three died with suspected measles symptoms
Another six children have died in the country due to measles and measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours, between 8am yesterday and 8am today (20 May), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Among them, three children were confirmed to have measles, while the remaining three died with suspected measles symptoms.
DGHS data shows that 1,270 children were admitted to hospitals with measles-like symptoms during the same period. Of them, 1,145 children were hospitalised, and 138 cases were confirmed as measles.
Among the three confirmed deaths, one occurred in Dhaka and two in Barishal. In addition, one child each died in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Khulna due to measles-like symptoms.
So far, a total of 80 children have died from measles in the country. Another 401 children have died with measles-like symptoms.
According to DGHS data, a total of 57,856 children have developed measles-like symptoms since 15 March this year.
During this period, 45,128 children have been hospitalised. Of them, 41,120 children have recovered and returned home. Meanwhile, 8,067 children have been confirmed to have measles.
