Nagorik Committee proposes e-health record, improved emergency healthcare

The Jatiya Nagorik Committee has put forward a seven-point recommendation for health sector reforms, including the introduction of a national electronic health record and the advancement of emergency healthcare services.
Its proposals also include improving primary and tertiary health care facilities, implementing measures to ensure better health services for marginalised communities, and offering quality opportunities and facilities for healthcare providers.
A delegation from the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, led by Joint Convener Dr Tasnim Jara, submitted the reform proposals in a 25-page document to Dr AK Azad, head of the Health Sector Reform Commission, today.
Speaking at a press conference held today, Dr Tasnim emphasised the need for an integrated approach to healthcare.
She said, "Currently, patients carry paper documents and move from one doctor to another. We are proposing a national electronic health record that will allow healthcare professionals to access a patient's complete medical history in one place. This system will ensure better quality care and simplify the treatment process for the healthcare professionals."
The joint convener also said, "Our dream is that the quality of treatment will not depend on how much money a patient has. Whether you're a rickshaw puller or a minister, treatment will be provided based on the disease, not your income."
In addition to technological advancements, the committee outlined the need to modernise primary and tertiary care, improve infrastructure, and develop a biobank to support research and treatment.
The proposals aim to elevate Bangladesh's healthcare system to world-class standards and guarantee that it meets the needs of the entire population.
Dr Tasnim concluded, "Access to healthcare is a fundamental right. We believe these reforms are essential to improving our healthcare system in both the short and long term. We will continue to push for these changes until our goals are achieved."
The committee hopes that the government will take swift action to address these crucial issues and ensure the health and well-being of people of the country.
