Govt to buy six more Linac machines at Tk363cr for cancer treatment
Adviser Nurjahan stressed the importance of adopting healthier lifestyles and dietary habits to prevent cancer.

The government is set to purchase six additional linear accelerator (Linac) machines at a cost of Tk363 crore to enhance cancer treatment in the country, Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum said today (13 October).
The machines are expected to arrive in the coming months, she said while speaking at a programme marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025 at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.
The adviser also emphasised that Linac machines are crucial for effective cancer therapy.
Noting the rising number of cancer patients, including those with breast cancer, Nurjahan stressed the importance of adopting healthier lifestyles and dietary habits to prevent cancer.
She also called for the development of specialist doctors to promote cancer awareness across all 64 districts.
The government has already arranged facilities for cancer, kidney, and dialysis treatment in every divisional hospital, she added.
The adviser thanked the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for its timely efforts in breast cancer treatment and reaffirmed the government's commitment to continued support in this area.
At the event, Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Prof Dr Md Abu Zafar highlighted that breast cancer can be 100% curable if detected early.
He urged people to undergo timely screening without hesitation or fear.
He also warned that breast cancer is increasingly affecting people under 30, emphasising that medical attention should be sought immediately if any symptoms appear, regardless of age.
