The dengue fever outbreak in Bangladesh has reached alarming proportions, with the death toll soaring to 1,109 people this year alone, marking the country's worst outbreak of the mosquito-borne disease. 

Tragically, 13 more lives were lost to this mosquito-borne disease and 2,555 new patients were hospitalised in the last 24 hours leading up to Tuesday morning, according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the new cases, 617 were reported in Dhaka city and 1,938 were from various parts of the country.

Presently, a total of 8,602 individuals afflicted with dengue, including 2,683 in the capital city, are undergoing treatment in hospitals nationwide.

The new figures surpassed the previous highest total recorded in 2022 when a total of 281 dengue-related deaths were reported throughout the entire year. 

Tragically, among these fatalities, 118 were children aged 15 and under. So far, the DGHS has recorded 228,779 dengue cases and 219,068 recoveries this year.
