9 children die of measles, similar symptoms in 24hrs; over 1,100 hospitalised

Nine children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In its latest health bulletin, the DGHS said that between 8am yesterday (13 April) and 8am today (14 April), a total of 1,105 patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals nationwide. Among them, 176 cases were laboratory-confirmed as measles.
So far this year, at least 31 children have died from confirmed measles infections, while another 164 deaths have been recorded among patients showing symptoms consistent with the disease.
The DGHS data further shows that between 15 March and 14 April, a total of 2,897 measles cases have been confirmed through laboratory testing across the country.
Overall, 18,129 suspected measles cases have been identified nationwide this year. Of them, 9,304 patients have already been discharged after receiving treatment, the bulletin added.
