3 more children die with measles symptoms at Rajshahi Medical, 149 still hospitalised
In the 24 hours until this noon, 25 more children were admitted with measles symptoms.
Three more children have died with measles symptoms at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), raising the death toll to 38 in the past three months.
At the hospital, 149 more patients are currently undergoing treatment.
Confirming the deaths, Hospital spokesperson Dr Sankar K Biswas said the children died between yesterday afternoon (3 April) and this noon (4 April) while receiving treatment.
Of them, two were from Chapainawabganj and one from Natore, aged between five and seven months.
One was in the intensive care unit, while the other two were in the paediatric ward.
In the 24 hours until this noon, 25 more children were admitted with measles symptoms. During the same period, three patients were discharged after treatment.
Since February, a total of 377 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to the hospital.
Today at around 11am, Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton and District Administrator Kazi Shahidul Islam visited the hospital's paediatric department and ICU to review the treatment situation.
Speaking afterwards, the city corporation administrator said the government is taking steps to ensure proper treatment for measles patients and to increase ICU capacity. He added that the city corporation is providing support in this regard.
He also said vaccination activities are ongoing in all 30 wards of Rajshahi City Corporation.
For tomorrow's (5 April) campaign, around 8,000 vaccine doses have been prepared at 64 locations and will be administered as per government instructions.
